Knox County Sheriff's Office Searching For West Knox Man Accused of Shooting Ex-Girlfriend

A West Knox County search is underway for a man accused of shooting at his ex-girlfriend.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office announced the search for a man driving a dark colored four-door car, possible a Chevy, on Wednesday.

The incident started when the woman was pulling out of the Weigel's at Middlebrook Pike and Ball Camp Pike just after 9 a.m. The sheriff's office said the man continued shooting at the victim as she drove on Ball Camp and stopped shooting when she was driving on Chertpit Road. She pulled into the Weigel's at Cedar Bluff and ran indoors for help.

Authorities said she was shot in the abdomen, but does not have life threatening wounds. She was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment.

A representative with the Knox County Sheriff's Office said they do not believe the public is in danger, because "he was shooting at his former girlfriend and not at random cars."

A representative with Knox County Schools said, "We had several schools briefly placed on lock down due to a situation that occurred in the area. They have all been lifted."
